Why is it we feel so goshdarn restless?

We’re starseeds: we find it hard to settle down. Like, real hard.

Between the constant desire to change what we’re doing, be on the move, and have more freedom, it feels like nothing we do satisfies us for long. In the midst of navigating a world that feels fast, confusing and loud, It can feel like we’ve been given the world’s shortest attention span — we find something, we fall in love with it, we work at it diligently for a bit, and then we get restless and need to pick up and move on.

This results in jobs that are short lived, connections that are plentiful but shallow (leaving us feeling lonely), and of course, on the move. A lot. But why is it that we find it so goddamn hard to stay in one place?

This one has been percolating on the backburner for a while. Let me know how the below reasons resonate in the comments. Do you have any more to add?

1. It’s in our Mission to impact as many souls as we can

This is where the whole “starseeds and belonging” and “why do I feel like I have restless soul syndrome” get to go on a little date. As starseeds, part of our mission is to find what makes us shine (i.e., activates our light) and do lots of it, sharing our lit-up energy with as many people as humanly possible. When we’re activated in our joy and spreading our light, we are unconsciously sharing light codes and helping to raise the collective frequency of the planet. For some starseeds, this means we physically have to move around in order to connect with as many souls as we possibly can in this lifetime. For others, this means we will feel the most lit up by connecting to the global classroom: communicating to audiences through platforms like YouTube or instagram.

Our desire to move around, when it comes down to it, comes from our desire to expose ourselves to the world and connect. The more places we visit, the more opportunity we have the spread our light. ALSO, it’s easier to forget our ‘3D’ problems when we’re travelling: housing, jobs that suit us deeply, issues with our families or origin; moving around can makes us feel more free and readily available to share our unique light with others.

There’s nothing wrong with this desire to travel! What’s important to remember, however, is that at some point, we do need to choose somewhere where we can feel like we can actively make a “home.” For some starseeds, this will feel like more than one place — and we will continue to travel throughout the year; albeit less frequently. Part of our mission, though, is to understand what it means to be human — and all that comes with it. Some humans are perpetually nomadic, sure. But for most of us, the human experience comes in the package of community. And to find community means to eventually make roots.

2. We need to travel light

If you are an awakened starseed (i.e., you know you’re a starseed or are opening to the idea of it), or have even begun to work in the realm of spirituality and healing yourself, you’ll be reminded of this fact readily and often: No matter how much we try to collect, or weigh ourselves down with material things, Spirit will always remind us to embody our purpose as starseeds and to travel light.

For many of us, this will look like having to move house a lot, having possessions lost or stolen, or having a general disinterest in collecting a lot of “things”. Because starseeds are light embodied, it’s going to be nearly impossible for us to collect a lot of stuff that will physically and energetically weigh us down. It’s already so easy for starseeds to get overstimulated and bogged down the plethora of options on this planet — we are usually much healthier (and happier) when we keep things simple.

The universe will usually provide us with the solution whether we like it or not: travel light, or have yourself be made lighter. Illness, loss of possessions, moving house and opportunities for travel are all things that will keep starseeds simplified and more closely connected to our purpose: find something that makes us shine, do it often, and spread our light to the world. We certainly don’t need the latest home AI system, multiple cars or 3 wardrobes worth of clothes for that. Trust me.

3. We go where the wind (or sense of community) takes us

This is a tricky one. Because starseeds have a “young” outlook on the human experience (as most of us don’t usually embody in a human form), there are so many things in this life that seem so exciting. This is a wonderful outlook — and can quickly pose a plethora of problems. Because Starseeds spend so much time seeking out a sense of belonging (without realizing that part of our mission is to dare to be different), it often means we’re ready to pick up and run towards whatever opportunity feels the most inviting, exciting, or enticing. This makes it hard for us to grow real roots, learn to create deeper relationships with people (furhter perpetuating our lone wolf mentality), and skip some of the basic lessons of ’sticking it out’ through our Earth lessons causing us to be put through them again, again, and again.

Believe me, I get it. I’ve lived in 12 countries between my 20s and 30s and haven’t lived in any single place for longer than 8 months in over 11 years (you read that right). Now, this one is a bit of a double edged sword. On one hand, it’s good and healthy for us to be getting out to connect with as many people as we can across this lifetime — sharing our light with others and enacting positive change. On the other hand, moving constantly can prevent us for learning to ground down and allow our light to be reached in other ways (like putting ourselves out there online, or getting involved with one particular community). In short, it’s important that we learn to do both. For some of us, especially those in the ‘warrior’ cohort (more on that soon), moving around will be an essential part of our development and connection to humanity. Just make sure that in the process, you’re learning the difference between travelling and running. They’re two very, very different things.

4. We’re trying to piece together our past

Another title for this section could have been “We’re actively undergoing the process of ascension.” When we begin to wake up spiritually and energetically to our mission and truth as starseeds, it’s not uncommon for our world around us to completely fall apart. (And ascension can happen more than once!) As a result, we usually get a little nudge inside of us that says move. This can be a wonderful thing: As we begin to walk up to our reality as starseeds, there will be a natural and gravitational pull to go to the places that will connect us with our spirit and deeper soul mission. For me, those places included France, New Zealand, Costa Rica and New Brunswick, Canada. Although I’ve travelled to other places, I received specific downloads and changes at each of those sites and during my travels there. For others, travel will become a state of constant soul-activation that can be hard to give up. It’s natural as a starseed to want to explore the world and connect to places that may help us remember who we are. If it works for you, follow that intuition — You never know where you may land that may reveal parts of your soul’s path and purpose. Just make sure you have a way to ground internally, and to make yourself feel “home” wherever you are. consistent practices like yoga, qigong and embodied movement can help this, as well as writing, art making and music.

5. We aren’t naturally “grounded”

Here’s the funny thing about Starseeds: While the whole woo-woo world is obsessed with raising energy from the ground up; opening our higher chakras and “cleansing” our third eyes — Starseeds need to be doing the exact opposite. Because our energy has incarnated from celestial origins, starseed energy actually flows from top down. That means that the top three chakras — crown, third eye and throat are usually quite open — making us deeply connected to the ethereal and spiritual realms, but not quite… grounded. We’ve been inundated by ancient and yogic philosophies that we need to be drawing our energy up from the ground — but for starseeds, this leaves our already-floaty selves stuck in the higher realms of consciousness and very very disconnected from the 3D, physical world around us. (Making us feel extra scattered).

In order to feel more grounded, we must pull our energy down from our higher chakras and encourage it to connect with the earth. This can be challenging for some starseeds, especially the ones who have embodied the broken-record narrative of “I don’t want to be here, I want to go home.” Having a subconscious resistance to being here on Earth prevents us from connecting with the ground, leaving us restless, irritable and constantly searching for a way out.

Here’s the thing: Whether you’ve internalized it or not, you’ve volunteered to be here during this critical time on earth to help raise the collective and spiritual frequency of the planet. You signed the soul contract and agreed to the mission. The sooner you surrender to participating in this lifetime on earth, the easier things will get. Pull your energy down, find something you love about planet earth and ground your energy in that love. Sweet soil, nice plants, loving animals, ocean waves. The more you can plug in to the frequencies of Gaia’s rhythm, the smoother your time here will be. I promise.

6. Earth bodies are new to us (and everything feels slooow)

Being a starseed means that the origins of our souls have come from constellations or star clusters — instead of being part of the billions of souls who have incarnated on earth time and time again. For us, we’re used to occupying our light bodies — meaning we haven’t had a lot of practice embodying the human form. The gravity of Earth herself and embodying as a human is dense. It’s slower, heavier, and generally takes more time for things to happen.

Take nature for example. If we were to observe a tree throughout its season — blooming in summer, falling away in autumn, deeply sleeping in winter and budding slowly in spring; the change seems to happen so subtly that we deeply feel this process happening over time. For us, we expect things to happen instantaneously, to happen now.

As a general truth for starseeds, everything that happens on earth will feel slow to us. That’s why it feels like we tire of things quickly. It’s not that we have short attention spans, or that we’re not able to appreciate something fully. It’s just that in our embodied codes of memory, we’ve always moved fast — at the speed of light, actually. Living here on earth is like living through molasses.

My advice? Get yourself some friends / peeps / partner who is an older, earth-based soul. You’ll be able to tell because you feel grounded and slowed down with them. They might even know they’re an earth based soul — (just ask them: “Do you feel like you’ve been on earth for a short time or a long time? They usually know right away).

It’s important for starseeds to pair with earth-based and older Gaian souls so we can grasp a better understanding of time and the process it takes for things to unfold. To help in this process, you can also learn some breathing techniques, take up a martial art or get a hobby that involves patience and watching things unfold at an organic pace (like gardening). The better we get at vibing in Gaia’s rhythm, the more comfortable we’ll be. It may seem. little boring or slow — but think of it as biohacking our mission. If we can get onto the pace of the planet we’re supposed to be helping out, all of our other gifts and abilities will fall into place at the right paces and times. In the long run, getting on Gaia’s pace means taking a short cut.
