A must-have Energy Tool for Starseeds

A useful practice from the book I wrote!

This is an excerpt from my most recent book, “Starseed Survival Guide.” Note that I will be changing the title of the book in future to: “Welcome to Earth: Energy Protection and Boundaries for Starseeds.”

WHEN WE THINK OF BATHS, we often think of bubbles, babies, self-care nights, wine, and a blissful thirty minutes hiding from your screaming children while you ignore your phone with 24 unanswered text messages. While all of those associations are true (access to a bath is my main non-negotiable in any living arrangement), there is much more to ‘bathing’ than hot, soapy water at the end of a *&%$!@# kind of day. Japanese culture, for example, coined the term “forest bathing” where people take in the sights, sounds, energy and general cleansey-healing feelings from the forest when they immerse themselves in nature. Instead of entering the forest with the intention of ‘getting away from it all,’ you enter the forest with the intention to bathe in the healing powers and energies of the trees. With this concept in mind, the bath we’re going to talk about here is portable, accessible, free and works wonders to give your energy a much-needed cleanse at the beginning, middle, or end of your day. Get the metaphysical bubbles ready: we’re going to have a light bath!

Back in 2017, I was living in a mystical, magical house with eight tenants (yes, eight of us), in a tiny sublet suite in the very back of the house that belonged to a very powerful priestess named Beth. The suite was teeny, and very orange, and had a tendency to get quite damp, but I loved it deeply and my time there was transformational. Beth was in Greece at the time, getting magical downloads for her now incredibly successful sacred business, while I happily holed up in her place. The months I lived there I was in the midst of my spiritual awakening. I was connecting with my twin flame, going through one dark night of the soul after another and dating a deep soulmate. Amidst the waves, I was learning through the information Beth had posted on the walls, mirrors and windows about energy healing and various prompts for manifestation.

Dark Night of the Soul: A Dark Night of the Soul is a period during our journey and soul growth that is, inherently, dark. This period is usually marked by relationships falling away, deep challenges within your personal life, or abrupt changes you hadn’t seen coming. A Dark Night of the Soul is the necessary darkest-before-dawn in one’s life: an essential period of growth where we are plunged into the soil of creation and get still, quiet, and listen. It’s a toughie, yes — but the growth that follows is always worth the struggle.

ON THE WALL of her shower (yes, inside the shower), Beth had a posting about allowing clear, crystalline white light to pour down on you and flood your body as a “light bath” while you showered.

A light bath? I’d never heard of this, nor tried it before. I was still a baby healer, and in the mindset that anything sacred, cleansing or clearing had to involve a lot of intention and a lot of smoke, as well as ample time to sit down, get grounded, meditate, journal, and perform any type of clearing ceremony (I know, I know, but what can I say, I’m a Virgo)!

Since I saw the post every day, I started giving light baths a try. At first, I was a bit shocked. I couldn’t believe how effective they were. Remember in the early 2000s when you could get those little Lip Smackers lip balms on a keychain so you could take them with you ‘on- the-go?’ … That’s what a light bath is like. It’s simple, easy to use, and oh-so-portable. If you’re only going to use one energetic practice, let it bethis one. The simplicity, portability and deep simplicity of a light bath really make it the best all-in-one practice.

I use a version of a light bath in pretty much all of my meditations, private sessions, and during my workshops. Light baths get you grounded, connected, and in a state of divine clarity that almost seems like cheating considering how easy it is.

(I’ve been loving this track to try my light baths with).

THE APPLICATIONS ARE ENDLESS!

Feeling overwhelmed? Try a light bath. Need to clear out some negative energy? Light bath! Need some extra clarity and protection before you head into an important meeting? Bathe me, baby!

It’s hard to miss the mark with a light bath, and the more consistent you get, the more you’ll find general conflict and day-to-day hiccups happen less often. The trick to an effective light bath, however, is to be fully committed to the technique. You must be fully present for the light bath to work. If you’re trying to clear your energy through visualization and you’re only half in it, it’s not going to do the trick. You need the same type of focused intention as when we do any other type of visualisation or manifestation practice. The more your energy is

in the practice you’re conducting, the greater the effects. If you’re doing the visualisation (or embodying the feeling, if visualising isn’t available to you) by ‘playing along’ with the technique but your heart and intention aren’t in it, it’s kind of like putting cookie dough into an oven that’s not preheated. Great intention, no result. (Raise your hand if you’ve done that more than once … )

Any energetic practice you’re going to find in this book will require your attention and presence in that moment. It’s okay if your mind wanders — — you’re a human! But the more you lean into trusting the practice and feeling into it with focused beliefs, the more effective it’s going to be.

LIGHT BATH PROCESS:

Find somewhere you won’t be disturbed. When you’re first starting out and if you don’t already have a strong meditation practice, intentionally sitting somewhere quiet, with your spine straight, focused on your breathing, is a great way to set yourself up for success. I get that not everyone is into meditation. So if you find yourself resisting, set your timer for an eensy three minutes and just breathe in and out, in and out. Put your hand on your belly and think of the back of your ribs expanding to give you somewhere to focus. I say this in my recorded meditations on YouTube, but letting your breath helps you get out of the mind and into the body.

When we use our breath as a leading point of focus, it can be easier to get into the process and let your breathing do the work. (If you’re someone who is carrying a lot of stored trauma, the gentle power of our breath can be an effective place to start for individuals who have barriers connecting to their body. The idea of ‘relax’ may not resonate for you somatically, but using your breath to greet tricky spaces in the body and nurture them to feel more ease can be an accessible way to gain more space).

If you already have a relationship with meditation, or are used to the practice of grounding and centering yourself, you can bring this practice with you anywhere! (I do it in my car when I’m waiting to pick someone up, on the bus, or waiting in busy places like an airport or health office). It’s also a wonderful practice to do in the bath! (Double baths?? Yes please!!)

Once you’re settled and have given yourself the space to drop in, turn your attention towards your breathing for five to ten slow breaths. Feel yourself relax a little. Next, imagine a pool of clear, honey-like light swirling two to three feet above your head. (If you like the idea of working with angels, you can visualise your angels holding the bucket or swirling the pool with their hands).

As you bring your attention to this swirling pool of light, visualise this pool tipping over like a slow, clear waterfall pouring on your head. Allow the light to enter the top of your head, filling every aspect of you with warm, golden light. Allow it to travel down, through your brain, your eye sockets, the muscles of your cheekbones and jaw, your ears, your neck … and as it travels, imagine that it’s simply absorbing any stuck, or stagnant energy from the innermost creases of your body and energetic field. Allow the light to get into the nooks and crannies, filling your body with warm (or cool), clarifying light.

As the light travels down across your collarbones, through your chest cavity and ribcage, through your belly and heartspace, allow this light to activate your energy centres as it travels. You have more of these centres than I’ll mention here (some above our heads and below our feet), but the primary seven energy centres are as follows:

The crown of the head
Our third eye (an inch above and between the eyebrows)
The centre of your throat
The centre of your heart
Your solar plexus
Around your sacrum / navel
And at the bottom of your torso, which we identify as the ‘root.’

Allow the light to continue down through these centres, clearing through your hips, through your lower energy centres, and down the entire length of your legs. As the light reaches your toes, allow it to exit your body.

Bring your attention through your spine, allowing this to feel like your grounding cord connecting your energy to the ground below and the limitless sky above your head and spirit. To close your practice, say a silent thank you to your angels and/or the universe for helping you clear your energy.

Closing practices don’t have to be all prayer-hands-and-namaste, but it is important to acknowledge gratitude for the practice and recognize its end. (Otherwise we walk around with completely open energy settings where who-knows-what-and-their-pet can access your sacred and personal energy).

After you’ve closed your practice, take a moment to note how you feel. Write down your observations in a journal, or simply take a moment to sit with and notice the change in your body.

Congratulate yourself — you’ve now officially done an energy cleanse all on your own. Once you’ve taken note of how differently (or maybe just slightly differently) you feel, use this as a marker to remind yourself of how powerful and capable you really are. After all, you can take control, clear, and cleanse your own energy — all with a bit of breathing and focused intent.
