Are you a Starseed?
(Or more appropriately: “What the f*** am I doing here?”)

Starseeds 101
Writing an article about what exactly defines a Starseed is like trying to write a “quick, catchy article” about the differences between types of bread at your local grocery store.
No, not your hip, well-to-do market that has fresh sourdough and at gluten-free option; but your average grocery store: the kind that has about 60 types of bread excluding the Natural Foods section, the gluten-free section, and the Bakery section.
Right.
Needless to day, it’s a lot to describe.
The term “Starseed” covers a vastly diverse number of star-based soul origins that are all currently present among us as human souls on earth.
I’m not going to get into where Starseeds came from, of what their purpose is here on Earth in this article — it deserves a webpage all on its own and if you’re wondering if you are a Starseed, that’s the important thing. The other details can come later.
Before we get too far into this, I want to ask you one simple question. Have you, at some point or another, (perhaps often), looked up at the stars and cried to no one in particular: “What am I doing here?!”
Welcome to Earth, Starbeing
Perhaps you felt an overwhelming sense of loss for a sense of belonging you’ve never known — or perhaps you had yet another misstep in the realms of ‘being human’ that it seems like all others, except you, seem to know how to grasp.
There are two very important aspects to this moment of helpless-curiosity that are pretty clear indicators that your soul is in fact, of Starseed origin.
One — the absence of clear purpose. Starseeds who don’t know what they are often find themselves relentlessly unsettled and lit up by a drive for something they can’t quite name. They know they’re here to do something, they can feel it deep in their bodies — but they haven’t a clue what it is. This leads to a common case of “purpose-chasing”: trying out different jobs, jumping from career to career, all the while feeling listless and lost when the job as a circus coach didn’t pan out to satisfy your ‘’ultimate career choice.” Nor did the job as a daycare teacher, or an organic baker..
The second detail in the “what am I doing here” moment surfaces when you turn your head and heart skyward, as if asking the stars themselves what the hell agreement you made that brought you to this gosh darn complicated earth.
Well, you signed a volunteer one, actually.
The Contract
Starseeds, having souls that have originated from other planets (give Hyperion a read if you want some examples), signed a contractual volunteer agreement to come to earth to help out. You volunteered to help the souls living on Gaia emerge from their place of suffering and learn to live more harmoniously with the planet on which they lived. This began to happen in generational waves. There’s some debate about when this contract came into effect — much of the spiritual internet will claim the 1970s were the beginning of the “Indigo Child” revolution, but to all of the downloads I’ve ever received dates it closer to the 1950s.
This means that Starseeds didn’t actually begin their soul cycles on planet Earth like a lot of our peers. We have history, memory, and lifetimes of information stored in our souls of a time and place that is very different to that of Earth’s. For example, most Starseeds are deeply troubled by conflict and violence that they witness here in their current life cycle. Most of the other cosmic origin places have lived in a sense of harmony where conflict is resolved without violence and bloodshed. Not to say that there’s never issue or conflict; but it’s not usually resolved via war. As a new soul on Earth, therefore, Starseeds simply aren’t used to the exposure of violence and destruction that is such a regular part of the Chaos Balance that exists here on Earth.
Sourdough, Rye, Kamut, Spelt…
When it comes to types, we have an array. Pleidians, Acturians, Lemurians, Lyrans, Reptilians (yes, they are a type of starseed), Andromedans … I could go on. Realistically, I’m not going to do a full face-dive into all of the types and what their characteristics are, mostly because a) I don’t want to overwhelm you, b) I don’t actually know all of the physical characteristics of every Starseed race, (and some origins trend more to specific life-paths than others) and c) For the sake of this overview article, I don’t feel it’s relevant.
Once you know you are a Starseed, I empower you with the ability to do your own research about each type and what that means for you. I would take straight internet research with a heavy pinch of salt, however — many articles that describe characteristics are either old — and there are now more details that what was once believed, only partially correct, or embellished to make it sound way more out there and alien-like than it actually is (Like saying all Lyrans look like cats, for example).
What I will promise to do is to give you as long of a list as I possibly can of the traits and characteristics I have seen across the board during my years as a very-out-there-starseed-doing-my-best-here-on-earth. As with anything that stands the risk of telling you what you are an what you are not, use that beautiful big brain of yours to discern by taking what resonates and leave the rest. Elementals (folks from the faerie lineage), Walk-ins, Earth Angels and Ascended Masters may also feel like a lot of this list applies to them, but perhaps not all of it. We’ll get to those folks on another day.
Has any of this resonated so far?
Below is a much longer list of traits and attributes that belong to the soul type of being a Starseed. This list is not currently comprehensive, mostly because I am only one cosmic human being with my own wealth and history of knowledge to draw on. Also, I think I would be here forever trying to get all the traits down; and then this article would never come out. And all of you out there still suffering from the “WHY AM I HERE?” Moments would never have the opportunity to come home to yourselves and who you are. So, the list will be updated as I remember more details and traits.
Welcome home.
Starseed Traits:
You’re an HSP or Highly Sensitive Person (I have yet to meet a Starseed who is not an HSP).
You’re constantly searching for “your purpose” / don’t really understand why you’re here
Light language makes sense to you (Like this music)
Feel really out of place most of the time
Don’t understand a lot of “human” events — unfair conflict, suffering, war, greed, violence, etc.
Your boundaries probably suck. This is a by-product of coming to a place filled with really pure energy of Love. We assume everyone wants to be friends with us, and that we’ll be treated as kindly as we would treat others. This is often a hard lesson to learn — and one that takes time.
Sensitive to food. Like it or not, you’re probably easily affected by caffeine, processed food, meat, and sugar.
You generally trend toward healing modalities. This is because Starseeds are essentially down here to well, help. These modalities include nursing, teaching, therapy, art, social work.. and all the other modalities we consider to be ‘helping professions’.
You have an innate sense to ‘help’ others. Erm, see above.
Being outside often is a necessity. The quiet of being in the forest or by the ocean is highly calming to you.
The inverse is true as well — you really suffer under fluorescent lights, desk jobs, and sedentary positions.
You get ungrounded in busy places — malls, concerts, parties where you don’t know anyone, airports…. these can all make you feel easily spun out and exhausted.
You feel highly connected to music.
You’re highly empathic.
You find yourself looking up to space a lot, and feeling at home.
Drugs have a different effect on you — often times the experiences you’re having feel different than the ones of those around you — like everyone is having some sort of transcendent experience and you’re getting direct phone calls from Home.
You’ve had an out of body experience (astro travelling as a kid, lucid dreams that involve travel, hovering over yourself while you sleep)
You have a deep feel for everything — the plants, the animals, the ocean, the rivers … all of it. It feels like a lot of nature talks to you. Watching the destruction of nature is particularly upsetting to you.
You enjoy solitude. People are great, friends are lovely, but you really enjoy being alone and are happy in your own company.
Inversely, you love connection — touch and emotions are big positives in your life.
Inversely AGAIN, you also have difficulty making deep connections. You can make friends easily, but you inevitably feel quite like strange outsider that is playing human to the best of your ability.
You’re highly creative. You often don’t know where your inspiration comes from, but anything you can get your hands on to make, create, or shape, you’re there.
You instinctively want to go “home”. This is something I struggled with for YEARS, wishing I could go ‘back’ to ‘before’ and not be ‘here.’ It’s a sucky feeling, and it’s not going to change anything, so reminding yourself that you did, in fact, sign a volunteer contract to be here is a great start to getting some peace of mind.
You enjoy Simplicity — in clothing, in looks, in comfort, practicality. We want to be comfy. we want to be clear-headed. This generally gives us a sense of style people can’t quite put their finger on.
You have bright eyes. This is by no means a definitive characteristic, but it is one that is quite common.
You trend to toward psychic stuff. Psychic stuff, aliens, reiki, tarot readings, ‘alternative’ medicine… it all makes perfect sense to you.
You get a great sense of peace being underwater. This is a big sensory one for most starseeds. Being underwater gives us that connection to ourselves and away from the noisy, modern world that helps us feel more balanced and in tune. You may also prefer to live near water. It’s sort of like the umbilical cord to accessing your soul-self.
You’ve been told you’re an “old soul”. Feel like you’ve been out of place in your cohort your entire life? Had adults telling you you were and “old soul” since your youth? Feel like you’ve seen a lot for the years you’ve lived? Yep, me too.
You can feel out of place with friends — you trended towards adults as a child, and now trend towards the purity of kids as an adult. It’s an innocence thing.
You can sense the feelings of animals. I’ve never met an animal healer who wasn’t a Starseed.
You’re neurodivergent, queer, two-spirited or trans / non-binary. This can be a complicated one to explain, but it comes down to the love frequency. Folks who are part of the trans-revolution (the Rainbow Revolution), are partially here to blow the confines off of what society has constructed as “love” and “relationship.” Many queer folks are highly sensitive, deeply intuitive, feeling beings. This isn’t a blanket statement — it’s just a trend I’ve noticed. Many Rainbow folks out there in the world seem to fit the characteristics of the Metaphysical definition of “rainbow children” — which is the term used to describe Starseeds born after the year 2000.
You may not really see the point of social constructs and are able to see the parameters of them at work. This originates again from coming from a place where peace and acceptance are inherent. The way things are run down here seem a little..conflictual.
You believe people are inherently good. This comes back to the boundaries thing. It’s tricky, and it’s not a bad thing. It just means you need to have a strong understanding of your own worth out there in the world as well.
Your body is an incredibly strong tuning fork. Ever felt totally rocked by “something out there in the energy?” Does the moon, Christmas, and funerals have a particularly whomping effect on you? Starseeds are generally reflectors of what’s going on in the bigger cosmic picture. Makes for a fun existence. Wheee!
You see orbs, visual snow or hear high frequency (ringing). These are all aspects of energy and the universe communicating to you. See if you can begin to tune into it, instead of just swiping it aside. Does it come up at a particular time? When?
Your intuition is incredibly strong. Goes without saying.
You can read people. Back to the intuition thing — Especially younger Starseeds (those born in 2000 or later) — are incredibly sensitive to the internal workings of other people. Reading people’s energy, moods and thoughts are quite common. You may have even trained yourself out of noticing this, as it can be a lot when you’re tuned into all the time.
You were drawn to this article. It’s no joke! We often find what we need to when we’re meant to.
